Almost .5!

Well folks, it's been quite an exciting 5th month with many "firsts." I still enjoy a leisurely lifestyle of eating every 2-3 hours 24 hours a day and am growing out of my clothes faster than my mom and dad can do laundry. Here's a recap of my big month. I'll start from the most recent and move backwards...

Things have really cooled down here in Portland and I had my first snow.

My partner Brody and I have been enjoying many nights by the fire.

Colder weather means getting really bundled up for those walks.

I held my first board meeting to discuss the progress of things. I think I really kept their attention.

I stayed in my first hotel room coming back from Sonoma County and there was another baby in the room!
I got to spend lots of time with my Grandma and Grandpa Johnson.

I had my first cooking lesson with my Grandma Gerard and boy was that fun!

And I had my very first tantrum when someone tried to take away my root beer bottle.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, I started my road trip to Sonoma County dressed in traditional pilgrim clothing.
And Marlie finally figured out what that Boppy pillow was for!

Look what I'm learning!

I'm four months and have learned so much!! Just last week I learned to keep this stupid plastic thing in my mouth (which made Mom and Dad very happy) and I finally got some milk out of that toxic silicon nipple they've been sticking in my face for the last 3 months. I just want the real thing, but they keep insisting on these fake ones. Oh well, at least I have my Bumbo chair...

October '05

Nyla will be 4 months old tomorrow and has had some major milestones this month. She's a talkative and smiley little opinionated bundle of love. Here's the month in review...

Here she is snoozing in the swing with her toy we fondly call "road kill."

Snoozing again. She's developed a fondness for her thumb, but can't quite figure out what to do with those other pesky fingers.

Nyla figured out how to roll from her tummy to her back but then quickly grew tired of it. She has now moved on to learning to walk. Here she and papa take a break from "tummy time" to smile for the camera.

Guess what our little Punkin' was for Halloween?

A very scary family portrait (Dad, Grandpa Bill and Nyla)

Here she is singing her first rap song. No more MTV after this...

Another big moment for Nyla... Introduction to her high-chair! Here she is eating her blanket, just like a big girl.

What an exhausting month! Luckily we make time for lots of naps.

Fall Update

Well, Nyla is starting to settle into a schedule and is actually sleeping much better at night. At 9 weeks she was in the 96th and 97th percentile for height and weight (go girl!) and continues to grow at lightning fast speed. At almost three months she has just about outgrown her infant car seat. We are still searching for that contraption that will keep her smiling and cooing.

Interestingly enough, she seems to love her new Bumbo chair - no batteries required.

The weather is getting cooler here which is allowing the little Miss to wear some new fashions.

And finally, if anyone knows the name of a good cat therapist, we could use one. Brody continues to struggle with being the "middle child." Nyla is sweet enough to let him use her toys (which he already thinks belong to him).

Trip to Sonoma County

Nyla just got back from her first road trip. She proved to be a great travel buddy and slept almost the whole drive down and back (while demanding food every 2 hrs).

After stopping in Lake Shastina (you late nighters may be familiar with Eric Estrada's new job of selling property in the area) we arrived in Forestville. Nyla was pooped and took a snooze on the couch.

She got to visit with her Grandma and Grandpa (NO, they don't really own those hats).

Nyla loves to sleep and luckily we were always able to find someone with two free arms...

She woke up every so often to pose for a picture. Here she is with Auntie Sara...

Then we headed back up north for another stop in Lake Shastina.

And just as she thought she'd never get out of that car seat, we made it home to Portland.

Where we found Brody waiting for us by the door...

Finally, Nyla stops taking life so seriously!!! (YAY)
Weighing in at 11 lbs, 7 weeks, from Portland Oregon: Nyla "The Eating Machine" Johnson

Nyla crashes after one of her Tazmanian-Devil-style feeding frenzies.

In an attempt to find something that Nyla will happily sit in for more than 30 seconds Uncle DJ and Dad work at a frantic pace to put together the latest purchase.

Fashionista

And here we have Nyla Rae sporting the latest fall fashions created by Maxine Gerard, Nyla's 93 year old great grandmother. Could this be the start of her modeling career?

Fashion Crisis

Someone let dad dress the baby.

How did Nyla feel abou it???.....

Cat Protest

Before Nyla's arrival we made sure to follow all the experts' advice and teach the cats to stay out of the cribs and bassinets. Unfortunately, we failed to teach them to stay off of the changing tables. We think Brody is having a particularly hard time giving up his previous status of "The Baby." Marlie, on the other hand, has filed her complaint and moved in with the neighbors.
